On most Florida installations, the filter slot is underneath or on the side of the AC unit or air handler — not a wall or ceiling return. Look for a metal frame opening you can access from below or from the side.
Measure inside the slot — not the vent cover, the actual opening. In inches, to the nearest 1/8".
Measure the inside width of the slot — inside edge to inside edge.
How thick the slot is — how far a filter slides in before it stops. Most residential slots are 1" or 2" thick.
Measure each dimension a second time. Even 1/4" matters. Write them as: Length × Width × Thickness (e.g. 16" × 20" × 1").
